Expert Recommendation
.Overview
Equipped with an image-stabilized 6x zoom lens and great image quality, the Canon PowerShot A710 IS is a versatile camera for family, kids, travel, and action photography.
My Best In Class Pick
Canon PowerShot A710 IS
Both cameras have good image quality at high ISO settings and offer “auto mode” plus a lot of scene modes for novice users. Experienced photographers will find the Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority manual modes useful. They both come with Canon’s panorama-stitch software (which helps join photographs together to make panoramas). They are also both very responsive, have a great Continuous Shooting Mode for action photography, and have optical viewfinders.
Overall the Canon A710 IS scores higher over the Canon A570 IS because of its greater zoom range, which can be further extended by 1.7 times using tele-converter lens. The Canon A710 IS is my Top Pick.

Canon PowerShot A570 IS
The Canon PowerShot A570 IS has a 7 megapixel sensor resolution, 4x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 35-140mm on a 35mm camera), and has good high ISO performance. It also has an optical viewfinder and runs on two AA Batteries. The battery life is 400 shots. It can support wide-angle and tele-photo conversion lenses, which are available separately as accessories. The shutter lag is less than 0.1 seconds. In the Continuous Shooting Mode, the camera can take shots at the rate of 1.7 pictures/second until the memory card fills up. This is the most affordable camera with an image stabilization feature in the Canon lineup. It has a face detection feature (when the shutter button is pressed halfway, the camera finds the faces in the frame and sets the exposure and most suitable focus point).
The camera received high praises from Steve’s Digicams (a popular camera review site).
