Canon PowerShot A710 IS

All of the above cameras have good image quality and offer “auto mode” and a lot of scene modes for novice users. Experienced photographers will find their Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority manual modes useful. These cameras come with panorama-stitch software, which joins photographs together to make panoramas. The Canon A640 is versatile because of its swivel LCD screen. The feature helps take shots near the ground (e.g. flowers) and overhead shots (e.g. crowded tourist places). At current prices, the Canon A710 IS is a better value than the Canon A570 IS because of its higher zoom range.

Overall, the Canon A710 IS scores slightly higher that the Canon A640 because of its higher zoom range and image stabilization feature, which is very helpful for shooting in low light and for landscape photography.

However, if one travels a lot and has an interest in street photography then Canon A640 is the way to go. Its swivel LCD screen helps take shots of people’s natural expressions. One can hold the camera at waist level and keep taking photographs without being noticed.
