.Overview
A great camera for indoors and landscape photography, the Panasonic DMC-FX01 captures panoramic views of landscapes and large groups with its wide-angle lens.
My Best In Class Pick
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01
In the Panasonic line-up, the DMC-FX01 is their budget camera (0.95” thick) with a wide-angle lens. It has a 6 megapixel resolution sensor and 3.6x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 28-102mm on a 35mm camera). The start-up time is 1.2 seconds and the shot-to-shot speed is 2.1 seconds. The full press shutter lag is approximately 0.5 seconds. The camera has an Image Stabilization feature to help avoid blurry pictures because of camera shake. The feature produces results similar to shooting with a cheap tripod. In low light, it helps to shoot using a relatively low ISO setting. At higher ISO settings, there will more noise in the images. The camera is powered by a proprietary battery whose life is approximately 320 shots/charge.

Olympus FE-200
The FE-200 is the only wide-angle budget offering from Olympus. It is 1.1” thick and packs a 6 megapixel resolution sensor with a 5x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 28-140mm on a 35mm camera). The camera has a Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) mode, which boosts the ISO setting to shoot at higher shutter speeds thereby reducing blur (however this increases the noise in the images). The full-press shutter lag is around 1 sec, and the shot-to-shot speed is 4.4-7 seconds. It uses a proprietary battery.
